A stadium is considered hallowed ground to diehard sports fans and players alike. In the history of the MLB, Shea Stadium is one such hallowed ground, especially now that it is being demolished to make way for Citi Field’s additional parking. It was considered the home of the NY Mets since 1964. That is why on September 28, 2008, after the end of the last game, a tribute to the legendary stadium was held by the Mets players all over the years. This New York Mets Shea Stadium Authenticated Infield Dirt Coin commemorates Shea Stadium by preserving authentic infield dirt onto the back of a 1.5" gold coin. It also features the image of Shea Stadium on its front. League authenticators supervised this process – ensuring that the dirt is definitely part of Shea Stadium. The coin has a numbered MLB Hologram encased in an acrylic capsule. One of only 10,000, it is presented with a COA and a custom black velour box.
