One of the early expansion franchises, the LA Angels were founded in 1961. They’ve gone through several name changes in their history, the LA Angels became the California Angels in 1965, in recognition of their move to Anaheim. They were actually bought by the Walt Disney Corporation in 1997 and changed their name to the Anaheim Angels to enhance tourism in the area and to captilize on the close proximity of Disneyland. In 2005 new owner Arte More wanted Los Angeles reflected in the name once more, and the LA Angels were given the full name the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, although they’re still commonly called the LA Angels.
